Birmingham Half Marathon

Many thanks to all those that sponsored a few of the team to pound the streets of Birmingham for 13.1 miles in aid of Cancer Research UK.

At the start of the day it looked as if flippers might be the footwear choice as it was “bucketing it down” but as the start time approached the sun came out and the clouds lifted.

“Don’t go out too fast” and “don’t forget about the hill” were the two major pieces of advice proffered by seasoned runners but these were quicky forgotten as we were swept along in a tide of flourescent lycra and running vests.

Duncan went out in the orange wave and was shocked that his first mile was done in 7 minutes (that wasn’t part of the training plan) and he finished in 1:54:19. Rebecca was part of the green wave and her time of 2:04:50 was a personal best.

Suffice to say that we finished in very respectable times and perhaps this will encourage further members of the team to partake next year!!

GG Social Upcoming Events

2016 saw the birth of our GGSocial. This was an idea by the greenwellgleeson team as a way of developing new relationships and building upon existing ones, a chance to say “thank you “ and a way in which professionals within the Midlands market can network with each other .

We have held a variety of successful events including Cheltenham Races, Cricket at Edgbaston, Tennis at the Priory and Comedy & Theatre nights to name just a few. With the end of the year approaching and the party season nearly upon us we have just a few more events coming up:

Annual Contractors Evening – Thursday 3rd November
The Full Monty – Tuesday 15th November (fully subscribed)
The German Market – Thursday 8th December

We plan to continue our GGSocial next year and are in the process of coming up with events and ideas for 2017, if there is anything that particularly appeals to you or other types of events that you have attended that you feel have worked well then please let us know by emailing GGSocial. We are always open to new ideas and hope to offer events throughout the year that appeal to everybody.

The Final Quarter

We are looking ahead to a busy quarter for new instructions, particularly on the permanent side of things. Our Part/Newly/Post Qualified team (headed by Duncan Wise) lead the way with clients keen to seek first-time movers from Medium-sized practices. There also seems to be strong need for Accountants with a strong Manufacturing understanding.

As a business, we continue to be well spread across the whole finance spectrum for AP/AR Clerks to Finance Director. The Transactional team (headed up by Paul Hancock & ably assisted by Barry Sheldon) have really come into their own this year, and are currently working on a variety of Payroll, Credit Control and Purchase Ledger vacancies. At the other end of the scale, our Exec Division (headed by Steve Rai) have been kept busy with a variety of Finance Director opportunties that have come from our Corporate clients and also the VC/PE backed space.

Should you require an Interim resource to bridge any staffing gaps, or fill in specific project assignments, then please speak to Rob Lawton, Rebecca Cooper or Leanne Guest.

We are looking to forward to a busy end to 2016 and we hope that the economy remains resilient to any post-Brexit pressure. Should you be looking for a career change or to recruit then please drop an email to info@ggltd.co.uk or call 0121 233 9911.

All you need is Love-rpool

Although the summer is normally a quiet period in the industry; no thanks to the fantastic weather, children off school and holiday season in full swing – we were very fortunate to enjoy a fantastic Q3 and were rewarded with a trip to the home of that famous British band…I just can’t quite remember what they were called though.

After comfortably Beatling our target to the end of September, the majority of the greenwellgleeson team were shipped off to Liverpool to enjoy the sights of the historic Docks, the magnificent Liver building and the atmosphere of the infamous Cavern Club.

The Albert Docks played host to our mid-afternoon tipple, enjoying a mixture of Guinness, cocktials and Jagernbombs (not all in one of course). Although some broke away to ejoy the landscape of Liverpool from the Ferris Wheel, others stuck together, announcing to their counterparts “You’ll Never Drink Alone”.

After returning to the hotel for a quick freshen up – the team then headed to the Hanover Street Social for a bite to eat. The “eating’s cheating” rule was rapibly tossed out of the window as we enjoyed a fantastic array of culinary delights – sincere complements were passed to the chef(s). safe to say the food went down better than a Yellow Submarine.
The night took us then to the highlight of the night; the brilliant and historic Cavern Club – a venue offering both domestic brilliance on-stage, and international attractions off it… some people even claim to have seen George Clooney in there – a suspect claim at best in many people’s opinion.

Throughout the night thereafter, the team continued to twist and shout into the early hours of the morning, with plenty of suspect dance moves on show, a few more Jägerbombs and the appearance of the worlds most inappropriately placed bathtub.

Needless to say, most felt a bit worse for wear on Friday morning with some arriving at breakfast simply to wish people a swift “Hello, Goodbye”.
